Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Runtime Labs develops a secure and time-aware platform that aligns language models with users, building Runtime as a personal memory layer where conversations and events are privately anchored across time.
This is a founding role shaping the core infrastructure of Runtime and related products.
About the Role
- Design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure supporting Runtime, including database systems, storage layers, event pipelines, and API services that scale reliably.
- Scale and harden systems across Neon, S3, event data collection pipelines, and distributed services to support growing user base and increasing data volumes.
- Develop primitives for reasoning in time: anchoring model conversations in calendar events, scheduling logic, temporal context retrieval, and integrations with external APIs and services.
- Build the Runtime Temporal API and foundational systems that enable time-anchored memory, intelligent planning, and context-aware AI interactions.
- Proactively automate, test, and build internal tools that accelerate engineering velocity, with strong emphasis on reliability, observability, and developer experience.
- Collaborate closely with the founder to design and implement durable architecture that balances performance, maintainability, and long-term scalability.
About the Person
- Cares deeply about clean communication, code hygiene, and documentation—values architectural clarity and systems that are easy to understand and extend.
- Consistently pushes the frontier of their skills and of model capabilities, staying current with distributed systems, database design, and infrastructure patterns.
- Works with urgency on daily tasks and patience on developing and adapting the long vision, balancing immediate needs with strategic technical decisions.
- Avoids shallow optimizations; builds durable infrastructure that provides real, lasting value for users and sets the foundation for future growth.
- Brings a passion for developing new primitives and innovating with deep technical excellence, particularly around temporal reasoning, event-driven architectures, and scalable data systems.
- Motivated by building systems that enable powerful user experiences while maintaining simplicity, reliability, and performance at scale.
